Growing up in Indonesia makes us obsessed with the rich flavour of Indonesian cuisines. We are so proud when Rendang and Nasi Goreng were voted as the World's Best Foods by CNN and when Gordon Ramsay went to Indonesia to learn how to cook Rendang!
Beef Rendang is an Indonesian spicy meat dish originating from the Minangkabau region in West Sumatra, Indonesia. It has spread across Indonesia to the cuisines of neighbouring Southeast Asian countries. Rendang is piece of meat — most commonly beef — slow cooked and braised in coconut milk and spice mixture well until the liquids evaporate and the meat turns dark brown, tender, caramelized, infused with rich spices.
Beef Rendang is one of the specific signature dish of Minangkabau culture, rendang is traditionally served at ceremonial occasions to honour guests during festive events; such as wedding feasts and Hari Raya (Eid al-Fitri).
Although culinary experts often describe rendang as a curry, the dish is usually not considered as such in Indonesia since it is richer and contains less liquid than is normal for Indonesian curries.
Beef Rendang is very well-known in the food industry, that attracts top celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay, and the Corporate Executive Chef of Unilever Foods Solutions, John Barkley, went to Indonesia to learn how to cook a classic Beef Rendang.
